Volunteer Why volunteer Join our volunteers There are different ways you can contribute your time and skills to Gateshead Carers. All we ask is that you are aged 18 years or over and happy to have a DBS check for certain roles. Our Volunteer Coordinator is available to discuss with you the volunteering options we have available and help you find the role that will best suit your skills and interests. By becoming a volunteer you can: Help dedicated unpaid carers get much needed support. Develop your skills and gain experience. Do something rewarding. Meet new people. Try something different. Volunteer Roles Hear from our Volunteers! One of our volunteers has also written about her story all about the joys of being a volunteer with us! You can read it here. We spoke with Volunteer Befriender Irene all about her experiences with volunteering. Listen to the episode here. COVID-19 UPDATE Although restrictions are easing we are continuing to follow government guidelines to ‘work from home if you can’ and following health and safety advice. Although this has put limitations on volunteering we are currently able to offer: Telephone Befriending for carers and the person they care for - until face-to-face contact is able to resume. Having input through our Carers Knowledge Panel. Helping with online events and activities. We currently have 1 volunteer checking on our allotment and keeping it tidy but are hoping to expand this to more volunteers as we put new safety measures in place. Community Connectors can now facilitate Virtual Carer Cafés. There's always something going on at Gateshead Carers. Our volunteers can stay connected with each other by joining our volunteer WhatsApp group, following our Facebook page, reading our volunteer's newsletters, and joining Zoom meetups. Thank you to all our volunteers for their continued patience and support during this difficult time.
