We were delighted that a Westminster Hall live debate took place in Parliamentary on Thursday 22nd July at 3.15 and was attended by 22 MPs including Liz Twist MP for Blaydon, who talked about her recent visit to Gateshead Carers during Carers Week 2021 and raised some very important issues around isolation and valuing the work of unpaid carers in our community. She took the time to refer to the carers who she met during her visit to us and to the issues that they raised in their discussions with her.

In case you were not able to listen to the live debate and would like to, you can listen and watch it in the archives folder on Parliament TV  Click start to watch. If you just want to hear Liz Twist MP's speech go to the time slot starting at 15:38.

We welcome the calls MPs made for carers to be provided with more support to take a break and for carers to be at the heart of the Government’s reforms for social care and thank Liz Twist MP in particular for raising the issues for unpaid carers here in Gateshead and indeed the profile of Gateshead Carers Association.
