01 April 2021

Unpaid carers, aged over 17 and under 64, should now contact Gateshead Carers or their GP surgery if they wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccination as part of the cohort 6 vaccination rollout.

Previously, unpaid carers could use the National Booking Service (NBS) to book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment themselves however this is now temporarily unavailable for unpaid carers due to vaccine shortages in April 2021.

The Government / NHS has not released any information at this point in time as to when the National Booking System will re-open.

If you are an unpaid carer aged 17 and under 64 you are still in Cohort 6 of the vaccination rollout. You now have two options in order to get your vaccination within the Cohort 6 rollout.

Option 1

Only available If you are an unpaid carer and you have previously accessed support or are currently accessing support from Gateshead Carers.

You can contact us with your Name, Phone number (mobile or landline), and the area of Gateshead you live in (e.g. Birtley, Teams, Bensham). With your permission, we will forward this information to the local vaccine coordination team and you will be contacted by them to arrange your vaccination appointment. This could be arranged within a matter of days.

Option 2

Open to all unpaid carers

You can contact your GP surgery directly and they will arrange a vaccination appointment. This could be arranged in a matter of days.
