We're excited to announce that our Cumbrian holiday home, Caldew House, will be receiving some major renovations this year! Work is planned to start in April 2024 and aims to be completed in late June 2024. Naturally, during this time period, we will not be able to offer carer holidays. We will share more updates regarding the renovation's progress on our website and Facebook page.

The renovation will breathe new life into the holiday home and will bring about changes including; a new kitchen, new carpets and flooring, fresh paint and wallpaper, a new accessible bathroom, and general accessibility features throughout the home.

Furniture and Furnishings Callout

As a local charity, we often rely on the generous donations of our supporters across Gateshead and beyond. With the new renovation of Caldew House almost underway, we will need some furniture and furnishings to make the place homely and welcoming to carers. If you or someone you know would like to donate good-quality furniture or furnishings to help make Caldew House amazing, please leave us a message via our website.

Short hotel breaks for carers

We understand just how vital a break from a caring role can be. Although Caldew House may be closed for a short while; we are still able to offer unpaid carers short breaks in hotels across the country, thanks to our partnership with national charity CareFree. These breaks are typically 1-3 night stays at hotels with a minimum of 3-star quality in the UK. Please note that CareFree requests an administration fee of £33 to use their service to book a free hotel break. For more information on this, please speak to one of our Carer Wellbeing Facilitators who can refer you to the CareFree hotel booking system.
