Services For Carers

Carer support banner

We offer a confidential support, advice and information service to adult carers in Gateshead who provide unpaid care and assistance to a relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without this help. Our experienced Support Workers are here to help carers with every aspect of their caring role, so whether you feel unable to cope and want help finding appropriate care or you just want to ask a quick question, one of our friendly Support Workers will be happy to listen to your needs and help find the best solution for your situation.

Our dedicated Benefits Advisor is passionate about making sure carers get the right financial support for their situation. We have guided Carers through both the claims and appeal process with great success.

Our dedicated Working Carer team are on hand to offer advice and support to anyone who is juggling paid work alongside a caring role. Our friendly Support Workers can advise you of your rights and liaise with employers on any work related issues.

Our carer led service means we only work on issues carers feel comfortable talking about, these could be issues relating to; housing, debt, police and social care, all common problems for this particular group of carers.

Our dedicated BME Development Worker and Support Worker reach out to carers from ethnic backgrounds and communities who often find it difficult to seek support due to language or cultural barriers.

Our support reaches the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, to offer these particular carers a safe and welcome environment where they can talk about their specific needs and situations.

Our range of Short Break groups and social activities allow carers to take a short break from caring, helping them to unwind in a friendly and therapeutic environment where they can also learn new skills.

Our range of training courses are tailored to meet the level and ability of each learner. Carers have told us they felt more confident and knowledgeable in their caring role after taking part in one of our short sessions.

Our in-house counselling service is facilitated by North East Counselling Services and is offered to any Carer who feels they need extra support to overcome trauma or emotional difficulties.

 

We support all adult carers across Gateshead, no matter what the disability or ailment of the cared for person. We are also work hard to reach groups of carers who have their own very specific needs such as; Working Carers, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender carers, Alcohol and Substance Misuse carers and those from BME and faith communities. All carers seeking support from us will be treated equally, with dignity and respect and where necessary translators will be used to overcome any language barriers. All carers will be assessed by our experienced Benefits Advisor to make sure they are claiming the right financial assistance for their situation.
