Carers Week is an annual campaign that aims to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK.
Every year we organise and deliver events that bring together a range of organisations and support agencies from across the region. Our events aim to raise awareness of caring whilst offering help, support and information to unpaid carers and their families who are living in Gateshead.
If you would like to get involved with Carers Week in Gateshead this year, please call us on 0191 4900121.
Other Ways to Support Carers
Carers Week is a time when we can all do our bit to raise awareness and support carers in our community, in addition to joining us at our events, here are a few ideas on what else you can do…
Connect with Gateshead Carers via our Facebook page and stay up to date with all the latest news and events. If you follow us on Twitter you can use #CarersWeek and #MyCommunityCares to stay up to date with the latest Carers Week developments across the UK.
Ask us for some leaflets and posters to distribute in your local community, faith organisations and businesses to encourage them to take part in Carers Week. Display the posters where you can, for example on noticeboards at work or in school.
Someone you know may have caring responsibilities and will need information, advice and support at some point throughout their caring journey. Tell carers that you meet to register with their local Carers’ Centre (there is one in each local authority). Speak to your local council for their details or give us a call and will be able to guide you in the right direction.
If you are in paid employment, ask your Human Resources department or your line manager if you can display or circulate some information for carers in your workplace. Even better, get your employer to sign up to our ‘Carer Friendly Employer Charter’.
