This month has seen the start of our new Befriending service. Carers are able to have a break from their caring role with the help of our Volunteer Befrienders who can provide company for the cared for person for a few hours a week.
Step one: If you are registered with us as a carer you can speak to one of our support workers about accessing our befriending service. Our support worker can give you some information about the service and check you are happy with how it works.
Step two: The support worker will then pass the request to our volunteer coordinator who will then arrange to come out for a home visit with the support worker to chat with both you and the person you care for about the type of befriender they would prefer. For example, they may feel more comfortable with a man or woman who is of a similar age or who have a particular interest. We aim to match people who have similar interests and are most likely to be compatible.
Step three: When we have found the right befriender the volunteer coordinator will arrange a time to come with the befriender to introduce them. At this point everyone will have agreed on the days and time the befriender will be coming. The volunteer coordinator will stay in regular contact to check everything is going well.
