We currently have twenty one members of staff working for Gateshead Carers who each bring their own unique and dynamic energy to the team. We are always on the look out for funding to support further posts within the organisation in order to strengthen our service, broaden our reach and help more carers across Gateshead.
Steve Cowen – Chief Executive Officer
Steve joined as Chief Officer in 2010. Throughout this time he has successfully raised substantial funding to support new carer services in Gateshead. He continues to fight for carers rights and campaigns to get better services for carers in Gateshead.
Brian Pereira – Finance Manager
Brian originally came to Gateshead Carers to access support but soon became an invaluable member of the team by regularly volunteering his time with the charity. Brian now manages all financial business for the organisation and also assists with IT issues, amongst other things!
Nikki McCann – Communications & Marketing Officer
Nikki joined the organisation in March 2016 with an extensive background in PR and Marketing in both the third sector and in education. She is responsible for managing all the charity’s marketing and communication needs.
Kelechi Dibie – Training & GP Liaison Officer
Kelechi aims to reach both carers and health & social care professionals in her light hearted and inspiring training sessions. She also works as our GP Liaison Officer ensuring that we capture and identify carers earlier in their caring journey.
Paul Forster – Carer Support Worker
Paul has gained first hand experience of caring and understands the anxiety and frustration that carers often feel and so works hard to help carers overcome the negative effects. Paul also has experience of working in a range of public and voluntary sectors services.
Andrea Goodfellow – Carer Support Worker
Andrea joined the team in 2015 and brought with her a wealth of valuable knowledge gained from her experience working with vulnerable adults and local service providers. Andrea is dedicated to helping people have better opportunities in life.
Janice Hall – Carer Support Worker / Benefits
Janice has a background in law and many years experience of caring for someone. Her passion for the benefits and appeals process has helped many carers to access financial support they would otherwise have missed out on.
Mandy Ramsey – Carer Support Worker / Working Carers
Mandy is our dedicated support worker for Working Carers and is supported by a team of three other members. Mandy is a qualified occupational therapist and part time working carer, proving that she has the right skills and experience for the job.
Denise Moscrop – Carer Support Worker / Working Carers
Denise has worked in the field of advice and support for over 8 years so has a wealth of valuable experience and knowledge to carry her forward in her role. Denise’s post has been funded through the Equalities Office to support working carers.
Carly Ahmed – Carer Support Worker / Working Carers
Carly joined the team in 2015 to engage with local employers and ensure that they are recognising unpaid carers within their workforce. Carly is dedicated to supporting carer rights and is passionate about improving carer health and well-being.
Katalin Bartos – Outreach Development Worker / Employment
Kata is an experienced Outreach Worker with many years’ experience within the voluntary sector. She will be working with local employers to improve access to support for working carers.
Joanne Wilson – Carer Support Worker / Alcohol & Substance Misuse
Jo joined the team in 2010 as our support worker for carers of people affected by alcohol or substance misuse. In that time she has helped hundreds of family members overcome difficulties brought on by a loved ones substance or alcohol misuse problem.
Carolynn Dixon – Carer Support Worker / Alcohol & Substance Misuse
Carolynn joined the organisation in November 2014 to support carers of those affected by alcohol or substance misuse. Carolynn has a wealth of knowledge and experience gained whilst working in the NHS as a community development and health worker.
Becci Varnham – BME Development Worker (On Maternity leave)
Becci works on a part time basis and brings with her a passion for cultural diversity. She is dedicated to reaching hidden carers from minority and ethnic backgrounds.
Charlotte Callender – BME Support Worker (On Maternity leave)
Charlotte works alongside Becci to deliver support to carers from BME and faith communities. Originally from multi-cultural and diverse South Africa, Charlotte has a background in mental health and enjoys volunteering and working with people.
Laura Ratcliffe – Carer ‘Moving On’ Worker & Befriending Coordinator
Laura joined the organisation to fulfil this post to help carers balance the demands of caring against their own life goals. Laura’s experience of working with vulnerable people makes her the perfect candidate for this position. She has recently also taken on the role of Befriending Coordinator which is a service that aims to match adult carers with a volunteer befriender who will provide one to one companionship and support by visiting the carer for an hour each week. This vital service will provide training for befrienders and support throughout the pilot programme which runs until May 2017.
Sandra Carr – Administrator
Sandra is the sunshine at our front door. She manages the front of house like clockwork and keeps the office and GCA team ticking over perfectly. Sandra will always find time for anyone in need of a little comfort.
Jessica Fulcher – Administration Assistant
Jessica is our youngest member of the team and joined us through the apprenticeship scheme. Jessica is assisting Sandra to deal with office administration tasks from handling calls to dealing with a range of requests from staff and carers.
